Last week's bad weather with storm Biparjoy spilling over the Arabian Sea affected flight operations in Mumbai.

Specifically, Mumbai was pummeled by torrential rain and strong gusts as cyclone Biparjoy, which has become an "extremely severe cyclonic storm," became stronger.

At Mumbai airport, anxious scenes could be seen as some travelers waited for hours to board their planes. Due to the weather, a few flights were canceled or delayed.

Some travelers tweeted their complaints about the annoyance. Durgesh Tiwari wrote:

"We have been waiting at the Mumbai airport for more than 5 hours; the flight was scheduled to depart at 11 p.m., but the time currently is 4.40 a.m since the captain and pilot are not available. If this is relevant, they do not also offer accommodations.”

Late last week, Air India released a statement stating that some of its flights departing from Mumbai will be delayed owing to inclement weather and a brief runway closure.

"For us, the agony as flight delays are both problematic. We are only required to make such alterations to the timetable in the most urgent circumstances. We appreciate your patience, Indigo tweeted in response to a passenger.

Some districts in coastal Maharashtra have received a "thunderstorm" notice from the meteorological office.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the state governments are also urged to keep a careful eye on things, check in on their local conditions frequently, and take the appropriate measures.

District officials have been informed appropriately.
