According to the weather agency, the start of the rainy season has officially begun throughout Japan.
Specifically, the northeast and certain portions of the country's center have joined other places already experiencing wet weather.
However, Hokkaido, the northernmost prefecture of Japan, does not experience the season.
Wet weather in Japan
The southern Japanese regions of Okinawa and Amami, as well as the western Kagoshima Prefecture, were the first to proclaim the beginning of the rainy season this year on May 18.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, it arrived eight days later in Okinawa than it does on average each year.
The rainy season began in parts of western Japan on May 29, but a day later than usual, on Thursday, it did so in Tokyo and the prefectures surrounding.
